FARO Quantum X FaroArm joins inspection facilities

As part of its ongoing investment in quality assurance, Metaltech Precision has taken delivery of FARO’s new Quantum X FaroArm, a portable coordinate measuring machine (CMM) which significantly enhances the accuracy of inspection probing and scanning.

The Quantum X FaroArm is designed to probe or scan, with articulated measurement arms that are significantly more versatile than fixed CMMs and can access harder-to-reach locations, and delivering up to 15% accuracy increase against previous models. When every micron matters, this is a significant improvement.

Increased inspection capability

The new CMM hardware and dedicated laptop offers several benefits over the previous model, including:

• Significant upgrade in reach from 1.2m to 2m, helpful for large cast components
• 8-Axis fully integrated rotary table, facilitating the scanning of large or bulky objects
• Integration with multiple Laser Line Probes that address non-contact measurement needs, allowing detailed pre- and post-machining inspection
• In-machine inspection capability to streamline operations
• Up to 23µm volumetric accuracy allowing for the inspection of tight tolerance components

Powerful software for 3D measurement operations

Metaltech Precision’s new portable measurement arm is supported by powerful CAM2 software, streamlining industrial metrology applications for dimensional controls, incoming parts and first article inspections, part-to-CAD comparisons, assemblies, repeat part measurements, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

The system improves and increases the efficiency of measurement routines and provides an effective correlation between quality assurance and production operations, offering a powerful set of tools to fully control and optimise manufacturing processes at Metaltech Precision, and delivering cost and time benefits for customers.
