CNC Milling Services

Metaltech Precision is a turnkey manufacturing partner for sub-contract CNC milling, machining components for aerospace, defence, rail, oil and gas and marine customers from our 50,000 sq ft facility in Chard, Somerset.

Our milling capability covers three, four and five axis vertical and horizontal machining across 17 machining centres, with a maximum machining envelope of 3000mm x 800mm. Components run through dedicated milling cells, with automated and robot loading where volume justifies it.

Our milling capacity

Seventeen machining centres cover the range from compact components to large prismatic parts, so work is matched to the right size of machine rather than tying up a large centre on small jobs. Twin pallet machines keep spindles cutting while the next component is loaded, and two YCM NXV1680AH centres were added in 2024.

Five axis prismatic milling

Two Mazak VTC-800/30SR travelling column centres machine multiple faces of heavy and large components within a 3,000mm x 800mm x 720mm envelope. Machining several faces in one setup reduces the number of operations a complex part needs, and with it the error that accumulates each time work is moved between machines.

Prismatic milling suits large, heavy components with features on several faces, where holding datum across operations is the difficulty rather than the cutting itself.

Horizontal machining

Horizontal machining on our Doosan HP 5100 twin pallet centre suits prismatic components needing access to multiple faces, with the second pallet loading while the first is cut.

Materials

We mill steels, stainless steels and yellow metals, and we have experience in exotic alloys including Titanium, Inconel, Hastelloy and Duplex rather than standard grades alone.

Quality and traceability

Our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certification covers the manufacture and supply of precision machined, fabricated and assembled components to customer requirements for the aerospace, defence and other market sectors. Certificate 75915/A/0001/UK/En, issued 16 December 2025 and valid to 13 December 2028, originally certified in December 2019.

Milled components are inspected in a temperature controlled facility housing coordinate measuring machines, a surface projector and scanning equipment, with full traceability for aerospace and defence work.
