General Manager Paul Jordan explains how engineering support, turnkey manufacturing and investment are delivering broader customer value

Metaltech Precision is strengthening its position as a strategic manufacturing partner for OEMs, Tier 2s and customers in performance-critical sectors. Under General Manager Paul Jordan, the business is continuing to expand beyond precision machining to offer stronger engineering support, turnkey manufacturing, assembly capability and quality-led supply chain management. As Paul explains:
“Metaltech is already a complex machining specialist, but this doesn’t tell our whole story. We are transforming the business to ensure we offer exactly what our customers need: a Tier-2 strategic manufacturing partner with strong engineering capability, automated capacity and multi-sector resilience.”
Having worked in regulated industries including for BA Systems, Todds, Babcock and Eaton, Paul is familiar with the demands imposed on metal manufacturing for sectors such as aerospace and defence.
Engineering support can be vital at the early stages of manufacturing supply, including ensuring that components are designed for manufacture (DfM) with opportunities for prototyping and tooling optimisation. Paul’s strategy will see Metaltech further strengthen its engineering capability to become a full strategic partner to primes and OEMs.
As General Manager at Metaltech Precision, Paul has a keen understanding that customers need support throughout the lifecycle of their metal components or completed assemblies. For example, in Aircraft on Ground (AOG) situations where an aircraft is forced to remain grounded due to technical issues, maintenance problems or repairs, airlines face high-cost delays. Fast technical support for repair or replacement parts is critical, so Metaltech is reinforcing its ability to provide both the engineering support and round-the-clock production capability to meet this need.
In addition to offering customer support from design right through to delivery and after-market care, Metaltech will increasingly offer a one-stop shop to simplify supply chains for customers.
By taking responsibility for subcontract specialists and the logistics involved in providing any intermediate services, the experts at Metaltech can provide the quality assurance and traceability required by regulated industries, as well as reducing delivery time and complexity.
The company will also be developing dedicated account management services for key customers to support this full-service partnership.
As part of this drive towards full-service manufacturing, Expromet has already supported Metaltech by investing in new assembly capability and new kitting facilities. Paul explains that these give Metaltech the ability to kit and assemble for their customer base, rationalising their supply chain:
“This investment allows us to offer turnkey manufacturing, including machining, kitting, surface treatments and assembly, all within a single purchase order. It benefits our customers by improving efficiency: instead of dealing with three or four suppliers then kitting and assembling parts themselves, customers can simply give us the purchase order, and we’ll co-ordinate and manage the entire supply chain.”
Metaltech Precision stands out as a specialist in complex CNC machining, with 50 years’ experience in the sector and an extensive manufacturing facility and plant list. Capabilities include sliding head machining for small, intricate parts as well as machining challenging materials such as Remko soft iron, and exceptionally-resistant superalloys such as Duplex, Super Duplex, Inconel and Hastelloy, providing excellent corrosion- and heat-resistance for demanding sectors.
Paul’s strategy for growth includes the development of automated capacity, most recently seen in the investment in an automated NXV650 machining centre. This offers significantly enhanced milling capability, particularly for larger and more complex prismatic components, whilst its automation allows for extended run times and improved efficiency, helping to increase machining capacity for customers.
Paul leans on his significant experience in quality control and assurance, including roles as Quality Director and Quality Supply Chain Director in demanding industries, to ensure Metaltech upholds stringent quality assurance. The company already has a strong background in the demanding Rail, Marine, and Pump & Valve industries. As part of Expromet Technologies Group, it is increasingly focusing on the Aerospace and Defence sectors, which demand high performance and involve regulatory and trade challenges.
Metaltech already holds triple ISO certifications alongside JOSCAR registration, Cyber Essentials and AS 9100. Paul plans to pursue AS9100 Rev D maturity and Cyber Essentials+ for defence.
The company is also a centre of excellence for welding and fabrication, already holding welding certification ISO 15085 (rail and rolling stock) and ISO 3834 for delivering complex, demanding and mission-critical welded fabrications for sectors such as aerospace and defence.
Expromet Technologies Group continues to expand the choice of metal manufacturing capabilities and engineering expertise offered to customers, with the recent addition of specialist welding capability through Tiverton Fabrications.
“My first six months in this role have been an exciting challenge, as we strengthen ways to support our customers, and welcome Tiverton to the Group” says Paul. “We have huge opportunities to develop as strategic suppliers of choice to primes, Tier 2s and OEMs in performance-critical industries. Expromet offers robust supply chain partnership backed by skill and investment – I’m looking forward to developing Metaltech Precision as a key part of the Group.”

What is a strategic manufacturing partner?
A strategic manufacturing partner supports more than production alone. They can help with engineering input, manufacturability, quality assurance, supply chain co-ordination, assembly and ongoing component support.
How is a strategic manufacturing partner different from a machining supplier?
A machining supplier may focus mainly on producing parts to drawing. A strategic manufacturing partner offers wider support across engineering, production planning, quality control, logistics and long-term supply.
What is design for manufacture?
Design for manufacture is the process of reviewing a component design so it can be produced more efficiently, consistently and cost-effectively. It can help reduce complexity, avoid production issues and improve lead times.
What is turnkey manufacturing?
Turnkey manufacturing is a model where one supplier manages multiple stages of production. This can include machining, finishing, assembly, quality control and delivery through a single managed service.
What are the benefits of product lifecycle support in manufacturing?
Product lifecycle support helps customers beyond the first production run. It can include prototyping, repeat manufacture, engineering updates, replacement parts and ongoing supply over time.
Why do OEMs and Tier 2 manufacturers look for supply chain simplification?
Supply chain simplification can reduce the number of suppliers to manage, improve traceability, strengthen quality control and make purchasing and project co-ordination easier.
